Gold-dipped Firewood

Now that it's getting warmer outside for Spring, you are probably not going to be using your fireplace anytime soon. Today I have a creative way to accessorize that fireplace in the hotter months.

If you have an alcove for firewood storage why not fill it with some "Fancy Firewood"! It's very easy to get this look!

Step 1 Gather up some firewood

We used more log cuts than the traditional wedge cuts you can buy.

Step 2 Brush off excess dirt and bark

We used a scrub brush and dusted off all the pieces.

Step 3 Prepare the Paint

We used this metallic gold paint. It was the perfect finish and water-based so you could actually burn the wood if you wanted to.

Pour the paint into a plastic tub or any container really. You just want to make sure it's big enough for your firewood to fit in but not too big because you want the paint to be deep enough for the wood to be dipped into it.

Step 4 Dip the Firewood

Make sure to get good coverage and if you want that straight dipped line hold the wood nice and steady and straight. Then let the excess paint drip off the firewood.

Step 5 Let it Dry

We covered a bench a plastic and set the logs out to dry for a whole day. Since it was dripping a lot, we decided to place some logs underneath to catch the excess and have a splattered look.

And there you have it! So easy to do and it probably only took us about an hour to complete.

We used the gold-dipped firewood to accessorize the fireplace in the Showhouse a couple weeks ago. Ignore all the ferns behind it, they were not ours!
